Join us in Stu’s Kitchen

We’d love to see you at our first book launch of 2017. Stu Frith, station manager of International Connection Radio, based at Foxton Beach, has written a cook book called Stu’s Kitchen. Stu describes the book as “a slice of great kiwi recipes all our classic favourites”.

The launch of Stu’s Kitchen is at Te Takere at 10.30am on Tuesday 31 January. Copies of the book are available to purchase at the launch as will some of the jams and relishes he has been busy making. Come and have a cup of tea with us and enjoy a taste of some of Stu’s home made preserves.

Experimenting with new recipes, particularly with fresh produce, is a popular past-time at this time of year. Some of these new cookbooks, held in the library, may give you some inspiration and ideas to try:

Gather : fresh, tasty recipes for sharing by Tim Read

“This warm, stylish cookbook is full of great on-trend recipes that suit today's lifestyle of relaxed eating using fresh seasonal produce. Tim Read, the latest MasterChef NZ winner, delivers excellent recipes with an emphasis on generosity, freshness, and ease of preparation.”

Here’s one to check out as you prepare to head back to work and get the kids organised for school with tasty and healthy lunches:

Lunch on the go: over 75 delicious and healthy dishes for kids and adults alike

“Wave goodbye to boring store-bought sandwiches and embrace the art of the lunchbox. Adults and kids alike will enjoy these imaginative homemade lunches created with care--the healthier, tastier and cheaper option.”

This next title will give you some ideas on how to preserve some of that yummy produce that you have in abundance at the moment, whether it be pick-your-own berries or tomatoes and courgettes from the garden:

Cornersmith : recipes from the cafe and picklery by Alex Elliott-Howery and James Grant

“Awarded best cafe in Sydney, Cornersmith is one of the most cutting edge food venues around, and has been likened to Ottolenghi. It is renowned for its pickles, chutneys, jams and homemade cheeses; its salads and platters; and its barter system that encourages visitors to trade produce from their own back gardens. The book invites you to try your hand at preserving fruit and vegetables when they are at the height of their ripeness, to consider the seasons and to reduce food wastage.”

Happy reading and happy eating.
