If you love reading and talking about the books we would like invite you to come along to the Book Club at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-po. With our book club, we’ve created an opportunity where you can come and share your reading experiences with other readers. What you discuss doesn’t have to be the latest and greatest published novel, it may be an older title that you’ve discovered and want to discuss and recommend. Quite often a large part of the pleasure of reading a good book is sharing that joy with other like-minded readers. This is a great way to get book recommendations from fellow readers and it may challenge you to read outside of your favourite genres.

The Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-po Book Club meets once a month to share our latest reads in a relaxed, informal get together. Our book group conversation isn’t restricted to adult fiction; your favourite read could be a young adult novel or a biography of a television personality or sportsperson. Discover new authors, new genres and perhaps new formats like graphic novels, audio books or eBooks.

Sometimes we have a reading suggestion for Book Club attendees. This month we are challenging members to read anything from our Science and Technology section and also share another book they’ve enjoyed recently.

Some newly purchased titles in Science and Technology include Great American railway journeys : historical companion to the BBC series; Mars One, humanity's next great adventure or Rise of the rocket girls : the women who propelled us, from missiles to the moon to Mars. If you need any other ideas speak to one of our library staff who will be happy to show you around the shelves and make suggestions.

The Book Club is open to anyone who loves reading. We meet upstairs at 2pm every second Tuesday of the month with our next get together being Tuesday 14 November.

We’d also like to remind you that Foxton Library and Service Centre is closing at 5pm on Friday 10 November so that we can move everything across to Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom which opens on Saturday 18 November. We suggest you borrow a few extra books, magazines and movies to keep you going while we’re closed for the week.
