Holiday Programmes & Events

We have a lot happening in the Libraries these October holidays. The theme is Mad Science and we will be doing simple experiments for the children to do and take home.

In Shannon Library the Mad Science craft programme will run from 3-4pm Monday 2nd to Friday 6th October. Come along and join the fun. In the second week of the holidays the Lego Club runs at Shannon Library from 3.30–5pm on Thursday 12th of October.

In Foxton Library the Mad Science craft activities are on from 10.30–11.30am during the first week of the first week of the holidays from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th of October.

Our Mad Science craft programme runs from 10am-12pm Monday to Friday both weeks of the school holidays at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-po in Levin. Each morning the programme will start with stories from some wonderful volunteers. Then we will have fun with all kinds of experiments and fun activities for children to enjoy like invisible ink and jumping bugs.

We have some cool coding activities scheduled to take place during the holidays too. In the first week we will be learning HTML and CSS which are programming languages used to build websites. We will show you how to draw a robot face and create your own online comic strip story. During the second week we will do some fun activities using Scratch programming.

We also have two special guests visiting us at Te Takeretanga of Kura-hau-po during the holidays – mark these dates on your calendar so that you remember to come down to see them.

Craig Smith, also known as the Wonky Donkey Man, will be here at 2pm on Monday the 9th of October promoting his new book “The scariest thing in the garden”. There will be copies of the book available to buy and he is always very happy to do sign your copy. Craig is very entertaining and we are very excited about having him coming back to visit us.

Trevor Morley will be visiting again with his amazing collection of pop-up books. Keep an eye on the website to see when he is coming and come down to see what treasures he has to share.

And finally don’t forget our Levin Lego Club. It will be running on Thursday the 5th of October from 3.30 to 5pm. Come along and build with us.
