Jazz jam

Slyly over the past few months, Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō has been hosting a Jazz Jam session open to all musicians. They have been livening up the library on the third Sunday afternoon of each month.

It has brought an all-sorts mixture of experts and amateurs to share and rejoice in the classic jazz repertoire.

Seasoned musicians such as Geoff Culverwell, Radha Sahar and Kevin Watson have blessed us with their sound. They have played professionally, releasing recordings with a who's who of Kiwi acts for over forty years. Vocalists, drummers, guitarists, bassists, wind and brass hooters have all come out of the woodwork and contributed to the festive jazz mood.

Now the group is keen to unleash their hot licks and cool croons for the public.

Come along to a relaxed afternoon and support our local jazz talent. Expect to be treated to some Ellington, some Ella, a little bit of Sinatra, a dash of Ray Charles with a side of Miles Davis to woo your ears and soothe your Sunday afternoon.
