She Can Code

How many girls, women and other marginalised gender (OMG) people do you think we can get coding in Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō in one large coding session? We plan to find out with a community coding event called She Can Code.

She Can Code is a joint initiative of Code Club Aotearoa, Suffrage 125 and Sphero Edu who are generously providing awesome prizes to the organisation . The learning team at Libraries Horowhenua have their eye on the prize so we are holding our own She Can Code event at 2pm on Saturday 26 May.

Code Club Aotearoa is aligning this nationwide “She Can Code” event with Techweek which runs from 19-27 May. This year is also the 125th anniversary of women getting the vote in New Zealand so She Can Code is a joint initiative of Code Club Aotearoa, Suffrage 125 and Sphero Edu. The prizes are an educational set of Sphero robots which would allow us to teach members of the community how to programme robots.

Our aim is to get as many girls, woman and omg people coding as possible - even if you've never coded before, you can take part. We have a fun exercise planned that will see all participants creating their own web-based comic strip using HTML.

This will be our biggest ever coding event in the Horowhenua. You can bring your own laptop or we will have some computers for those who don’t have their own. To give us an indication of how many girls, woman and omg people to expect please register.

We look forward to coding with you.
