African American Journalist, Victoria Gaither, from International Connection Radio joins Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-po for Family Heritage Month. Victoria will discuss how African American families like her’s in America try to piece together a broken family history as a result of slavery. The National Press Club member from Washington, DC will also recount stories told to her by not only her family, but others searching for their past. “As a journalist, I’ve interviewed and listened to countless stories from African Americans all over the states who have questions and seeking answers”. I will be looking at slavery in the states of Maryland, Virginia and the capital city of Washington, DC. This will be an interactive presentation, as it is all about sharing and educating on the sometimes heartbreaking family search.
